Abstract

Introduction: One of the most effective measures for controlling the pandemic caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus is the development and application of vaccines. However, despite their proven efficacy, these vaccines are rejected by the population. Several factors, including personal characteristics, can influence the level of acceptance.

Objective: Determine the association between routine vaccination and personal characteristics with the acceptance of the COVID-19 vaccine in Mexican adults.

Methods: This study employs a descriptive, correlational, and cross-sectional approach. The sample consisted of 554 adult residents of the state of Guanajuato, Mexico. The data was gathered via a 10-question online survey. The statistical analysis was conducted using descriptive statistics and the Chi-square test.

Results: The majority of participants had received the COVID-19 vaccine. Those who demonstrated greater acceptance of the vaccine were male participants, people aged 40 years or older, those with a university education, urban residents, and unemployed individuals. A significant association was found between the history of influenza vaccination and acceptance of the COVID-19 vaccine (X2= 19.24; p ≤ 0.001).

Discussion and Conclusion: As in other studies, participants demonstrated greater acceptance of the COVID-19 vaccine. Having been vaccinated against influenza influenced the decision to accept the COVID-19 vaccine. This result may be due to a recognized positive effect of vaccination.
