Design of an instrument for assessing time link process of nursing
Main Article Content
Abstract
Considering the highest importance of patient security, it is certain that adequate nurse-shifting contributes to preventing adverse events, as it favors communication and coordination among health teams, while promoting continuity of care.
Objective: To design an instrument to assess the quality in the nurse-shifting process.
Methods: A quantitative transversal study was performed using 42 observation guides. The measurement instrument covers 4 areas: social and demographic data, organization issues, patient delivery and reception (with 3 sub-dimensions), and observations. Validation was performed through the expert-judge technique and calculating Cohen and Kuder Richardson Kappa coefficients.
Results: The instrument, named « Assessment of the quality in the process of nursing shifting » , Yáñez and Zárate, 2014, had a satisfactory content validity result according to the experts participating. The observers concordance was k = 0.92 with internal consistency of r = 0.93.
Conclusions: The instrument has enough validity and reliability to be used with the target population. The standardization of the nurse-shifting process contributes to preventing adverse events, and assuring quality of care.
